A Revolução nos media


Numa altura em que os jornais impressos perdem audiências a um ritmo assustador torna-se necessário que estes comecem a tomar medidas para acompanherem a evolução que os media estão a passar.

Foi o que aconteceu no "Orlando Sentinel" em que o Editor Charlotte Hall anunciou uma drástica restruturação do jornal de forma a focarem-se mais no mundo digital aumentando as audiências e tornando o jornal mais forte. Segundo palavras de Charlotte Hall estamos a viver num mundo de revolução dos media e que a mudança será constante sendo esta mudança assustadora para todos os profissionais da industria mas que não mudar é mais arriscado e uma maior ameaça para a sobrevivência do seu jornal.

Deixo-vos agora com o memorando do director para toda a redacção do Orlando Sentinel para dar a conhecer as razões da necessidade de mudança e o que será feito para evoluir na direcção certa:

"We will divide the newsroom into teams that gather news and production desks that edit and package the news.
As the importance of digital media grows, we need to think of ourselves as a continuous news and information engine – not as a “newspaper” organized along the lines of traditional newspaper sections.
From the current Metro, Features, Business and National divisions, we will create five newsgathering teams: the Public Service Team, the Breaking News Team, the Communities Team, the How We Live Team and the Business and Consumer Team."

e agora as razões e objectivos da mudança:

"We must grow audience rapidly on the Web. That means changing the way we work. It means gaining new skills and creating new beats. It means becoming a multimedia, 24/7 news operation. It means creating new databases and managing user-generated content.
We must keep the newspaper strong. That means a sharper emphasis on watchdog journalism, consumer journalism, unique local coverage, personally useful news, innovative storytelling and provocative commentary. We must focus relentlessly on what readers perceive as valuable – not on our preconceptions or traditions.
We must each take ownership of our work. Every staff member needs to take personal responsibility for making the newspaper and web site a success. Individual creativity, commitment and energetic action will be rewarded. The flatter management structure will require more self-discipline, initiative and self-management."
